Feeding Disorders in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Overview on assessment, intervention, and caregiver guidance
Feeding difficulties affect up to 87% of children with ASD (Nadon, 2011), yet they remain at the crossroads of multiple disciplines and are often underaddressed in clinical practice. This training offers a comprehensive, evidence-informed exploration of feeding disorders in children with ASD, from their definition and developmental origins to the sensory, motor, and behavioral mechanisms that sustain them.
Participants will gain a grounded understanding of how sensory modulation, and environmental context intersect to shape a child's relationship with food. Through clinical frameworks (ex: sensory approaches), practical tools, and case examples, the training equips professionals to move from awareness to action, adapting their approach to each child's unique profile while navigating the complexity of family and caregiver involvement.
The training draws on current research and includes guided reflection on the limits of existing caregiver guidance programs and how to work within them.
